Author Deirdre Sinnott will present on her years of research that provide the accurate historical background for her first novel The Third Mrs. Galway. The novel brings to to life the surprising drama of freedom-seekers and slave-catchers in Oneida County. This book animates the history of the region and the larger Underground Railroad phenomenon in a way that street signs and public lectures cannot.

Join descendants of freedom seekers from slavery, the public, NAHOF, and the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark (GSENHL) in commemorating the emancipation of slavery in the 19th century. We've organised a programme of songs and talks: 10am: Assemble and proceed to cemetery for wreath-laying 1:30pm: Lecture - Susan Goodier, PhD, Black Suffragists 2:30pm: Lecture - Harry Bradshaw Matthews, Supporting Reparations through Black Genealogical Research 3:30pm: Guided tour of the Gerrit Smith Estate National History Landmark - Norman K.
