- In January 2012 the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum received support for Abolition Comes to Life from the New York State Decentralization Grant Program, a state agency, and the Cultural Resocurces Council, a regional arts council.
- In February 2012 the Upstate Institute at Colgate University awarded the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum a 2012 ten week Summer Fellow.
- In May the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum received support for Abolition Agitation in New York Sparks War for Liberty and Justice for All in 2012 from the New York Council for the Humanities.
Milton C. Sernett Ph.D., a founder and member of the Cabinet of Freedom, received a Certificate of Commendation in April 2012 from Museumwise at the Museums in Conversation conference in Albany for his creation of traveling exhibit walls that chronicle American Abolition with text and visuals.
